This hasn't gotten me anywhere, but it's interesting: March has 32 days... Just kidding April fools!

TF, thanks very much for the link & the WhoIs info!

I hope I am not over-thinking the whole thing. But I find what has been revealed to us so far a bit.... strange, to say the least.
Firstly, although this blog "MysteryTales40.com" might look like a fan site, I was quite surprised to see that its domain & user profile were actually registered 1 day (May 16) after the domain for "Octagon Global Recruiting" was registered (both through GoDaddy .com).

Secondly, the owner of the blog devoted a couple of posts to the journey how he/they acquired the comic book on eBay, even provided a Paypal receipt/screencapture as proof. It also mentioned that the comic book was put up for auction before the relevant S4 episode "Cabin Fever" was aired-- May 8, 2008 in the US.
It seems that the first blog post was "published" on the same day.
But as mentioned before, the user profile wasn't created until May 16. Therefore I believe the publish dates for all posts prior May 16 are manipulated/fake.

What's more, after looking at the archived eBay auction page I was once again surprised to see the buyer "yojo_26" (obviously the owner of the blog "lost" or one of his friends) being a first-time eBay bidder/buyer, who only joined eBay in mid April 2008.
And judging by the bidding history, he's not the only first-time eBayer who was willing to pay good amount of money for the same obscure comic book (probably to ensure they could actually get the book).

I am not familiar with the vintage comic books collecting / trading scenes online or on eBay. But from my past eBay experience, it is very unusual to see any first-time bidder who would make their first purchase on high-price items. Not to mention, I would have thought this "lost / yojo_26" guy to have a bit more experience on eBay since he appeared to be a major comics fan/collector... It's not like eBay was created only recently. It has been around for years, and millions of collectors search & buy things on eBay.

Anyway... now suddenly that OGR's 1st email happened to have the phrase "March has 32 days" hidden in its meta tags. And the scans of the comics can only be found on this supposedly "fan site"?
Either this is some amazing (& very convenient) coincidence in life or ARG3 is much more sophisticated (& convoluted) than I've expected. LOL.

As JJ's movie "Cloverfield" had a 4-part manga published in Japanese between mid January and May this year, probably it should be no surprise to see that comic books being involved in the new ARG.

Well, let the real games begin already. Laughing

While googling "Hans Van Eeghen", I came across some more interesting info regarding this "March has 32 days" comics on the Lostpedia blog from the comments made by poster "daysleeper" & "Wahidiyya Kosmotikos" (who only has this profile since June 2008 Confused).

daysleeper wrote:
The main character in "March has 32 Days" is someone named John Billings. To quote wikipedia: "Dr. John Billings AM (5 March 1918–1 April 2007) was an Australian doctor who pioneered the natural method of family planning known variously as the Billings Ovulation Method, the Ovulation Method, or the Billings Method."

Interesting at the least. You can see more at the wiki site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Billings

This other poster, Wahidiyya Kosmotikos, seems to know a great deal about the possible origin of the comics.
And "Hans" being a Scandinavian form of "John" is also interesting, if not already mentioned elsewhere.

All very lost related! Good stuff.

And as mentioned before, wouldn't March 32 be another name for April 1? April Fools?

Yeah April's fool was also my first reaction when I saw the title. But so far the comics itself seems to be legit. (Maybe the comics fans on this board could shed some light as to how to verify the legitimacy of the title?)

Also 3+3+2=8, another lost number. Very Happy

Thanks JAS... Very Happy

I may have gotten my signals crossed a bit, or I was looking at things with old eyes...

I was looking for the MediaTemple servers... Guess I'm still living in the TLE past... Laughing

TF: Same here!! MediaTemple server is the very first thing I look for in every lost-related WhoIs. Laughing

I didn't think there's a need to look further until the eyes jumped randomly to the registration date.

hey

I've never played an ARG but kind of followed what other people were doing in the first one, I found out about it way too late and was somewhat overwhelmed lol.

Anyhoo, I'm just about technical enough to view a page source, but does anyone have any tips for the other stuff you've mentioned, the WhoIs or something... I've read the whole of this topic and I think I need to prepare myself a bit better if I seriously wanna play. Any advice or mini-tutorials would be very welcome!

By the way no ones mentioned this yet, but I went one a dutch translation site and

Van Eeghen = Of Them

sound very "Others" related Smile

Welcome klee !!!

Once this game begins full swing, just jump in and enjoy... There are a lot of us here that don't mind helping if you find yourself in a pickle.

Viewing page source can definitely be helpful, as they sometimes like to bury clues in the HTML code...

WhoIs is just a way to find out who the webpage is registered to, and what servers it's hosted on... We mainly use that to determine if a site is "in-game" or not. There were quite a few fan sites that popped up during TLE, so it was handy to check WhoIs, so we didn't spend a bunch of time on unofficial sites... The easiest thing to do with WhoIs is do a Google search on it... That will point you to websites where you can get the registration info.

Depending on how the game goes, you may also want to search for sites that help with decoding, for things like binary code, Hex code, ROT-13, anagrams, etc... You'll probably end up bookmarking those things for easy access.

Good catch on the Dutch translation of Van Eeghen... I haven't run across that one yet. Very Happy

I got my email a while back but, as I was in the Canadian boonies, I didn't reply to it until yesterday. Hopefully we'll see some action over the next month.

Z
ETA: I'll try and keep a list of ARG events on page one of this thread unless someone wants to take over. Lemme know if I miss anything. I guess we can list the fan sites on the normal sticky.
