The Island is an insane Asylum/Hospital

There has been alot of talk about the sickness and so far we don't know what that is.

Perhaps everyone on the Island *IS* sick. But they are not sick in the sense of feeling bad/ill, but perhaps a sickness that causes multipersonality disorder.

I think that only a handful of people on the Island are real.

The others are real.

Danielle is Real.

Desmond is real.

One of the crash suvivors is real. Except that there was no crash, its just a story and most of the details of the crash are in someones mind.

Out of all the crash survivors, all of them have committed crimes in their past, or have been good people haunted by personal demons.

Only Jack from the crash has been "neutral" and is not an exceedingly good or bad person. Jack also has the most backstory and is the most prominent lead character. He was also the focus of the beginning of the pilot and "discovered" the crash after walking out of the jungle.

SO Jack is real.

Jack, Desmond, Danielle are patients of the hospital.

The others are doctors.

The "sickness" makes people see other people who are simply representations of their various character traits...both good and bad.

The doctors are treating these patients. As they get closer and closer to being cured, characters/traits are slowly culled away.

Good traits /characters are taken off the Island by the others (they say they are the "good guys".

Bad traits/characters are killed after being excised, or have reached redemption.

Think about all the people killed who would have represented bad traits, but were killed only after they "redeemed" themselves.

Shannon - using people: She immediately after finding true love

Boone - jealousy : He was killed only after giving up his jealous for Shannon.

Ana Lucia - : vindictive. She was killed only after she choose NOT to kill Henry Gale

We know that the others (i.e doctors) are trying to take(save?) good traits/people, and have no problem with killing those that they think are bad.

They came for John Locke, but he is a strong personality, so the doctors have not been able to "take" him. They came for Ecko, but he's a strong personality to.

Danielle and Desmond are simply patients as well, however I don't have an explanation for why they are still on the island/hospital.

Im not sure if thats whats really going on, but thats one kickass idea! Ive never thought of that, and it really does make sense, or at least the part about them being killed right as they break their old habbits... Nice theory!!!

well that cant be possible for two reasons:
1.the producers made it clear the island wasnt just in someones head
2.jack was supposed to be killed in the pilot episode and kate was suposed to be a combination of jack and rose's characters. if he wasnt meant to be this main character that would mean theyd have to change the entire concept of the story which they in all likelihood wouldnt do.

Well im not saying the Island is imaginary. In fact I think the Island is quite real.

Im thinking the Island is both a method of quarantening the sick as well as a method of treating people.

I choose Jack as the patient primary for pragmatic reasons...he is the closest to a lead character, has had the most flashbacks, and for plot related, he is the most neutral and isnt exceedingly good or bad.

Yeah, great idea! I don't think it will turn out this way, but its a cool theory.
