some people who come up with theories really lack common sense.. and also make themselves look very ignorant.. |

12. The Reconsideration Principle
If a successful or at least good argument for a position is subsequently found by any participant to be flawed in a way that raises new doubts about the merit of that position, one is obligated to reopen the issue for further consideration and resolution. |
Sadly, I shall use the quote above to make my point here. I also thought this tread was a great idea at first, and Valetus has made many terrific contributions on these boards. But as this sticky has now been up for over a year and has only been opened fewer than 7000 times and received 18 replies in all that time, perhaps it is time to reconsider its place at the top of the Theories Forum?
As a relatively new poster I was (am) reluctant to say anything, but it would seem this space could be put to better use, and topics here like others not stickied be allowed to drift into the archives when it is clear few are reading/responding to them. One suggestion I would make is a sticky just for user suggestions on addressing some of our common problems following the threads we enjoy.
What made me think of this was I wanted to express my appreciation to Europa, who has been doing an outstanding job of trying to discourage the use of this forum for expressing random-and oft repeated-thoughts instead of Theories. Much of what is posted here should be in General. This was the closest I could find to a suggestion box so I’m sending my kudos-and suggestion-here. There are many bright people posting in Theories, so we might learn quite a bit. But if nobody reads them or adds ideas, throw this new “box” into the trash bin with the others. Just a thought. |
