after talking him out of hanging himself.
the scene didn't feel natural to me. the only piece of info that locke revealed was that he was going to seek out eloise hawking. _________________ His smell smelled like the others. |

He did not want Locke to go back to the island so he could be in charge at some point, he was eliminating the competition, let's not forget that Locke dethroned Ben as top dog on the island...
Of course if it is true once you turn the wheel you can never go back, then, how can we be sure Ben is even himself? _________________ You know what bothers me about all this, no one seems to be asking the biggest question of all...Why?

| Ben wanted control of the island and he didn't want to have a power struggle with Locke. |

Add that to the way Locke told Ben that Jacob told him he was going to have to die, and there's really nothing stopping that psychopath from killing him. I still think it's a little out of character though, to think that he would kill him at that point in the show like that after their talk at the orchid. Unless they reveal there was more to it than as is, I'd say the significance of showing Ben's character to be completely un-redeemable is perhaps a close second to the significance of Locke being dead...since I hope and believe we'll see some significant time with Locke, the true Locke, next season. |

While this is correct, I find it to be a pretty lame answer. With all the resources Ben has been shown to have, he was really unable to locate Eloise without Locke's help? |
