So, Richard says he watched the 77ers die.

The ONLY thing that makes sense to me is that he saw the bomb explode and saw them disappear afterwards. Them dying would only make sense in that respect. Perhaps the bomb DID reset things: only now, there are two iterations of time... one where the bomb went off and restored things to their natural order, and the one where the bomb never went off.

In either case, what do YOU think this line from Richard means?

I think that when Richard said he saw them die, he was referring to an event we haven't seen yet...probably some time in Season 6. I think this is why Widmore and Hawking were helping to put the O6 on the path to get back...because they believed it was there destiny to die.

Some of my favorite scenes are when Richard is genuinely surprised or unsure what the hell is going on. GO TIME TRAVEL!

I always thought this was a reference to them dying in the purge... He didn't say when he watched them die and we know the purge happened when Ben was older, not in 77', cuz' he was the one who caused the purge (or am I wrong? I can't remember, I remember him with the gas mask and his dad... that was him doing the purge, right? I know, I get lost in lost...lol).

SO yeah, I think Richard was talking about the purge that happened years after that, but I could be wrong, thats just what I always thought..

Or Richard could be lying, who knows...

No.
so if he saw them die it must have been a different occasion, either one that we will see happen after 77 chronologically in S6 or an event that should of occured, but they reset history by blowing the nuke. (i don't like Alternate timeline bullsh** but it may be choice of writers.

Now, when richard said that, we were viewing a time chronologically after the losties leaving the island, or are we? what if the time that frank sun jin etc came to the island ISN'T when we think it is? we have no reason to assume that the plane stayed in real time. What if the time we see jacob die is before jack and all the losties actually came to the island?

any thoughts?

I dont know, the Purge didnt happen until 1992 which is a long way from when we last saw the Losties back in 1977.

I assumed it had to be the explosion, last time Richard saw them he had just led Jack and Sayid to Jughead. So if some giant explosion happened on the island, I am pretty sure he would assume they were successful in their attempt to detonate the bomb, thus killing themselves.
